Please note that now that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have been released we have updated the scoring of gaming consoles. You can find the latest ranking here.
We are excited to unveil the Enervee Score for Video Game Consoles. While there are endless blogs comparing tech specs and performance, Enervee is the first site to rank the energy efficiency of all the latest consoles including the PS4, Xbox One, and Ouya.
The PS4 tops the list with a 100 score based on the highest total performance (based on CPU, GPU, Ram, and HD Storage) per annual energy consumption (estimated for the PS4 and XBox One as this data has not been made public). The Xbox One is close behind with a 96 score and the Ouya comes in third with a 78 score.
You are probably wondering how the Ouya can be ranked highly energy efficient when its performance is 7X lower than the PS4 and Xbox One! The reason for this is that the Ouya has an extremely small energy footprint as its hardware platform is based off the power-optimized mobile technology from Android.
The next most efficient console is the PS3 SuperSlim which comes in at a 69 score - showcasing how big a difference the latest hardware makes on energy efficiency in the newest generation of consoles. And it is important to remember that as soon as new gaming consoles become available, all Enervee Scores will update to reflect the efficiency of the latest products.
Besides Video Game Consoles, we have also added two new electronics categories by releasing the Enervee Score for Computer Monitors and Digital Video Projectors. Be sure to check whether your flat screen monitor is best in class or whether it is more energy-smart to buy an LCD or DLP projector.
We look forward to hearing your feedback about the new categories. Also please let us know what products you would like us to cover next!
